    That’s All, Folks!

I spent this class making. I’m one of those people who’s always coming up with ideas for projects but never completes them, but this shows just how much I was able to make I learned how to use new software, and I got better at using software I’ve used before. They’re skills that I’ve already put to use on other projects. I’d like to think that I’d get around to making most of these one day, but the truth is I’d never put anything out into the world without a deadline. A few times, I’ve felt like I had to publish things that weren’t ready, but without a deadline, it…

    The Unluckiest Week

My main contribution this week was this. This project kind of felt like nothing was going right, and I got frustrated because I knew how to make it better, I just didn’t have time, and I won’t have more time to make it better until after finals are over. It was definitely the hardest project I’ve ever done, with the shortest turnaround time per minute of final product. I may attempt the project again this summer, either re-editing to hide my jump cuts better or actually starting over from filming. Maybe get some other actors, because the fact it’s all me makes it hard to follow at some points.

In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream

I’m not going to lie, I’m not super proud of the final product, if only because I knew what I wanted it to be, I knew how to do it, and I would have done it if I hadn’t run out of time. When making this project, I had all these grand ideas of how I was going to use Unreal Engine to make the spaceship that’s in the background, but it turns out Unreal Engine is hard to use for a beginner like me and I had to settle for a 3D room designer. I used the the production studio in the HCC to record, but forgot to turn…

    There’s a lot more story here now…

The original: The final: This was another fairly simple change, but it adds a lot of depth to the original. The remix button told me to add another, incongruous character, so I did. While the last one gave edgy, I’m-14-and-this-is-deep vibes, this one seems like more of a story. Who is Uncle Bob? Why is he waiting? Is he alive and present in our world, or something else? Is Uncle Bob human? So many questions.

    Jurcatsic Park

The prompt So I may have done this for the Daily Create originally, but I spent way too long on it and I realized it would make a good mashup assignment, so I made it one. Maybe it’s double-dipping, maybe it’s being efficient and proud of my work. The process was pretty simple: find the clip of the scene, find a video of some cats, take out all the images of dinosaurs in the original scene, and replace it with cats. I tried to match up the sounds the dinosaurs were making with the sounds the cats were making.

    Remix: On Death’s Door

Vs the original This seemed like an easy one to completely change the message of. I took the book cover I made for a dime-store thriller novel and changed it to an anti-smoking poster. It was a fairly easy change but it sort of reverses the message of the book cover (from “look how cool this person is” to “look how dead this person is about to be”).

    X-Men: The Live-Action Series

The assignment This took me way longer to do than I thought it would. I have been hyperfixated on this show for months, so of course I wanted to do something with it. At first, I was going to use my own arrangement of the X-Men: The Animated Series theme song, but I couldn’t figure out a way to play it that would sound halfway-decent. Instead, I used this arrangement, which is significantly longer, meaning I needed more shots. All the visuals either came from the existing X-Men movies, or this fan-made film. The voice lines did not come from the movies; the bigot at the beginning is a line…

    Summary and Final Specially Safara

First things first: My final version of my video project. The one I’ve been working on for two weeks. Here it is. That was the big thing. I explained it and updated on my progress here. Also comments here, here, here, and here. And my daily creates are below. That is all! Ciao!

    Specially Safara

I felt like it was easier to do the writeup and progress update in one post rather than do two that essentially say the same thing, so here we are. I linked the final video above. The idea came partially from the fact that I wanted to experiment with overlaying video, and I kind of did all of it for that one shot of Ball Circle. I don’t think it turned out as good as I wanted (turns out it’s difficult to get rid of the background around fire) but I know how to do it now, which is cool. I feel like I’m getting more and more proficient with…
