Dime-Store Noir Book Cover I’m Really Proud Of

The prompt Ok, I’m really happy with how this turned out. I love those cheap, predictable-as-all-get-out mysteries and action books, so I was immediately drawn to the prompt. Also I love this outfit and maybe I wanted to show it off? This may or may not be inspired by the cover that is the thumbnail for the assignment. My friend took this photo of me on the steps of Monroe Hall. I made a cigarette out of an index card since I’m too young to get a real one but they look cool and old-fashioned. I put the photo in Canva and used the Windel effect to make it look…

    #TeamSeas

The prompt I’ve always been passionate about charities and ocean pollution in particular, so I was drawn to this prompt. I chose #TeamSeas because it was so popular for a little while. I wanted to remind people that it is still very much active. You can still donate. The main audience of this poster is already familiar with #TeamSeas, so it was more important to have an eye-catching poster than something covered in information. I chose a simple font that would be easy to read. The image is from Pexels. I chose it because it showed the human element of the trash cleanup rather than just the problem like many…

Since it’s such a classic story that doesn’t need to sell itself (if you weren’t going to buy a copy, a flashy cover isn’t going to sell you), I went with a fairly simple design. If you know Tolkien’s lore, you’ll know that the reason he gives for all his characters speaking English is that he found the stories in an old tome called “the red book” and translated them for a modern audience, so I went…

    Condradiction

The prompt I was first drawn to this prompt because I thought it would be easy. Make a poster, but have the text be grossly misrepresented by the image? Should be easy enough. But then I realized that I was having a hard time coming up with two moods that were fully contradictory. The idea of using an image that is so incorrect for the message and text has been fairly common in media for a while. At first I thought of using a creepy image and bloody-looking font to say something cheerful, but I realized that horror movies have been using that idea for decades, and it enhances the…
